compare @ Contrast

           "I only pick on you cuz I like you" excluding those who are liked by none almost everyone has heard that at some time or another. After watching Beatrice and Benedick banter back and forth you can really see that Shakespeare must have been told something similar at some point or another. Claudio and Hero on the other hand just look dreamily into each others eyes. I think if you can argue with someone and not hurt them, not because they don't care about your opinions, then you already have a friendship whether you like it or not. Claudio and Hero's relationship seems to be based off of immediate physical and political attraction whereas Benedick and Beatrice's is more gradual revelation of companionship. Which in my opinion is a far more potential love than Claudio and Hero's.

         When Benedick challenges Claudio to a duel he is quite bluntly stating that he has officially subsided from the companionship of men to stand with his beloved.( I bet that's not what Don Padro was going for when he "tricked" them into love.

         "Choose your revenge yourself" is Claudio reaction when he hears how he was tricked. Yes I suppose that Claudio had satisfactory repentance when proven that he was an idiot. However he could depressed about Hero's (supposed) unfair DEATH rather that being worried about Leonato's deserved revenge.

          I am not sure why it was important for Claudio not to see Hero before he said His vows. Maybe to prove his word that he would marry what's-his-names niece...?

lady M./Beatrice comparison

     I guess I can see why someone might say that Lady Macbeth and Beatrice are similar characters. After they both manipulate their husband/to-be into doing their bidding by pushing them to be "men" it does seem as though they are in the same state of mind. But I can't disagree with that more than I currently do. Lady M would have considered her husband weak if he had not complied, Beatrice would have considered Bendick unloving. Lady M wanted and even at times considered herself a man to do a mans work, while Beatrice only had some wishful thinking at the spur of the moment. And lastly, lady M saw manliness as a power and willingness to do whatever for personal gain, whereas Beatrice thought of it as the willingness to stand up for what was right(at least what she thought was right).

      Obviously Claudio is angry at Hero because to him she is worth less after being disgraced. While anger may be warranted his violence is not. How he reacts is proof  that he really hasn't changed from solider to the lover/husband-to-be, but instead just wanted to apprehend a "jewel" to show off to others.

     I think that Claudio didn't go  after the supposed "defiler" of Hero because he simply didn't care. For him it would be like calling the manufacturer before going to the store when sold a broken item. If he really loved her as a person that would be the thing to do but as a replacable commodity?... Retrieving his original investment from the "store" was his best option.

lesson 2 "much ado about nothing" T? 7

While Hero helps with the "gulling" of Beatrice she mentions, so as to be even more convincing, that she plans to dissuade Benedick's love for Beatrice by disgracing her name. Here Shakespeare uses some "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" because Hero's statement foreshadows the slander that comes to her name later in the play. It even happens that both circumstances were brought about by deception. Also just as Beatrice's part ends well so does Hero's.

"Much Ado About Nothing" thought ? 3

             Beatrice compared Benedick's friendship to an expensively cured disease, I would assume, because she is desperately in love with him, a result of his wit and good looks, but won't admit so because she fears his stinging remarks about her mean that he dislikes her. Thus resulting in her life being consumed with trying to convince everyone that she despises him. Which as she said makes him a disease expensive to cure. Though in reality the same disease that he is for her, she is for him.
